We recognize that sending your child to NCS is a choice. We want to assure you that we will do our best to know your child, to make learning fun and purposeful, and to create a community of communication. At NCS children come first. Your child will be challenged to apply higher level thinking skills, to make decisions, and to solve problems. Each child will be seen as an individual, and the curriculum will allow for individual needs to be met.

At NCS we want every child to excel and meet his or her full potential. Children want learning to be fun, and parents want learning to be purposeful. At NCS our aim is to do both. We offer hands-on instruction and learning that applies to the real world.

NCS is committed to creating a community of communication. As Johnston County's first charter school, we are eager to create partnerships with parents, the business community, and the local school system. We look forward to receiving your application soon!

Family support is one of the cornerstones of any successful school. Children gain the most from their educational experience at school when they have parents and family at home to train, nurture, and encourage them. Moreover, to make the school all it can be, parents' knowledge, creativity, ideas, time, and other resources are also greatly needed. Every parent at Neuse Charter School will be expected to contribute a certain number of volunteer hours each month either in or out of the classroom. It may involve simply sitting with a class during lunch or recess to give the teacher planning time. It may involve working on a project or mass mailing at home for the parent-teacher organization. If ALL parents get involved, they can make a tremendous difference.

Dress Code 2009-2010

School wide standards on student attire are intended to help students
concentrate on school work, reduce discipline problems and improve school order.
The Board has approved the following dress code for all NCS students:

NCS uniforms consist of Khaki, navy, (or shades of brown or blue) or denim pants or jeans, skirts or skorts and any color blouse, dress, or shirt without designs
(the exception would be manufactured logos like Polo, Abercrombie, College teams etc.)
or an official NCS shirt.

Students are encouraged to wear NCS shirts especially on Friday to show school spirit.  Throughout the year NCS will have special attire days such as field trips whereby everyone may wear different outfits appropriate to the occasion.

Baggie pants, sagging pants, bare midriffs, tank-tops, spaghetti straps and see-through shirts are not permitted.  Hats and sunglasses may not be worn in the building.  Shorts are permitted but must be mid-thigh in length.  The Dress Code will be enforced and non-compliance will result in a parent/guardian contact and the student will be excluded from school activities until acceptable clothing is provided.

Any student deemed in violation of the dress code shall be required to change into appropriate clothing or make arrangements to have appropriate clothing brought to school immediately.  In this case, there shall be no further penalty.  If it continues
to be a problem, then the student may be subject to other disciplinary action
as outlined in the school discipline policy.
