While the two don't always go together, we've found that many of the ways to earn some easy money for our school have to do with recycling and being a Green School. We do environmentally friendly things because we believe it's the right thing to do, but we don't mind making a few extra dollars in the process! Here you will find information about programs the school is currently participating in, along with links whenever possible. If you know of a program like one of these that the school does not yet participate in, please send along as many details as possible to:

Box Tops For Education

 
Box tops can be found an all kinds of products, from Taco Kits to Kleenex Boxes, Tuna and Hamburger Helper to Baby Wipes! Please send Box Tops to school in a zipper sandwich bag or sealed envelope, trimmed as closely as possible.

UPDATE!! Final Count on the recent collection: 3410 BoxTops!! That's $341 dollars raised for the school, bringing our total for the 08/09 school year to nearly $1400!! Thank You and Congratulations!! Keep saving those BoxTops!

CapriSun, Honest Kids and Terracycle Drink Pouch Redemption/Recycling Program

UPDATE! Terracycle is having an issue with their website and the part of the signup page where you indicate where you want your money to go. They are aware of it and are working on a fix. In the meantime, they have advised us to tell people to register in the following manner:

 

 

Step 1: Go here  http://www.terracycle.net/dpb/signup.htm

Step 2: Enter all of your information, using home address.

Step 3: At the bottom where it says "In exchange for my collected drink pouches, I would like:", click "to donate to a school or organization of my choice". Doing this will make a new portion of the form appear just below, which says "I would like the donations I earn sent to:". Click "Add It Here". You will be taken to a new page.

Step 4: On the new page, enter info for the school as follows:

This program allows us to receive 2 cents for every single empty drink pouch we return. Terracycle is a company that makes products like bookbags, pencil bags, etc., out of old CapriSun pouches. They send us the prepaid bags, we drop them off at any UPS Store or dropoff location, and they send us a check!

This program is designed for low-volume, steady streams of Capri Sun and Honest Kids drink pouches. The PTO's Recycling Committee will run the program at school, for drink pouches consumed at school. But we want this to be a schoolwide effort! All you have to do is go here:  http://brands.kraftfoods.com/caprisun/terracycle/index.html  

Sign yourself up, designate Neuse Charter School to benefit from your contribution, and start the recycling and redemption program at home today!!

Once you have signed up for the Drink Pouch Brigade, you will receive an activation email, once you activate your account, TerraCycle will mail out 4 prepaid collection bags to your address. Once a collection bag is filled at least 100 drink pouches please seal and drop off the filled bag at a UPS drop off location near you.

UPDATE!!

We have BEEN ACCEPTED to the Terracycle Frito-Lay Brigade and Cookie Brigade!  You can sign up to receive your own bags from Terracycle!  Save Fritos, Lays, Doritos, Cheetos, Oreos, Nutter Butter, Chips Ahoy, Fig Newton, and other Frito-Lay and Nabisco wrappers (any size!)

We currently do not have the space at the school to collect all of these items to recycle.  In order to send the bag into Terracycle, we need to collect 200 bags, which is a lot for any one family.  If anyone has bags that you would like me to take and send in with mine, please e-mail me at:

Please save your cans and bring them to school! Use the blue Recycle Challenge dumpster in the parking lot. When the dumpster is emptied, it's weighed right there by the truck itself!
